Mobile 3D rendering on the iPhone

Handheld devices like PDAs, Smartphones or Netbooks are getting more and more ubiquitous. They are also becoming more powerful and able to display rich multimedia content. Therefore it is necessary to have an efficient, powerful and flexible scenegraph-based rendering engine available on platforms such as the iPhone, the Android G1 or the popular Linux-based Netbooks. In this course such a real-time capable rendering engine is to be implemented, using OpenGL ES, the 3D graphics standard for embedded systems. It will be necessary to implement a flexible 3D viewer with interaction capabilities, support for streaming geometry and image data. A careful approach is required to maintain high enough framerates for the limited compute power of the device and to keep the software's portability to other embedded systems.
